Welcome to The Archive

*Desktop recommended*

The Archive is a living digital space, a learning hub, and a collaborative platform fueled by the Somali community to preserve Somali culture for generations to come. We aim to collect and organize Somali culture. This project is built on the idea that culture is shared. It lives in our stories, language, traditions, and everyday expressions. Culture is our collective experience. We believe everyone carries a piece of that culture, and that by bringing those pieces together, we can create a fuller, richer picture of who we are past and present.

1. Stay Neutral

Write from a neutral point of view. Avoid personal opinions, political bias, or tribal favoritism. This archive is for everyone.

2. Use Reliable Sources

Whenever possible, base your contributions on trustworthy sources: books, articles, interviews, or firsthand knowledge shared with permission.

3. Be Respectful

Respect the culture, history, and identity of others. No hateful, harmful, or dismissive content will be accepted.

4. Avoid Original Research

This is not the place to publish new theories or personal interpretations. Stick to what can be supported or widely agreed upon within Somali culture.

5. Write Clearly and Simply

Use clear language. Aim to make content understandable for all readers.

6. Collaborate, Don’t Compete

Work with others. Improve pages rather than arguing over them. Assume good faith unless proven otherwise.

7. Cite When You Can

If you’re quoting a source, include it. If you’re retelling a story or sharing oral history, note the context or origin as best as possible.

8. Respect Copyright

Do not copy content directly from books, websites, or other sources unless it’s in the public domain or you have permission. Always rewrite in your own words and give credit where it’s due

Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
